Clinical Hypnotherapy

Clinical Hypnotherapy

Clinical hypnotherapy is a therapeutic approach that uses hypnosis to create a deep relaxed and focused state of mind. You remain awake, aware and in control throughout, allowing you to focus more fully on the thoughts, feelings and behaviours you would like to change. In this relaxed mindset, you are more open to constructive suggestions, making it easier to change unwanted habits and behaviours.

Combining my psychological training and clinical expertise, I use this deeply relaxed and focused state of attention to communicate with the unconscious mind and guide the therapeutic process. Working naturally with both mind and body, the process is individual to you, reflecting your personality and personal history, and works with your existing values, experiences and memories to support meaningful, positive and lasting change.

Irritable Bowel Syndrome (IBS)

An evidence-based, gut directed hypnotherapy and CBT-informed programme, supported by NICE (CG61).

I have developed a specialist programme to help manage and reduce  the painful symptoms of IBS, including diarrhoea, constipation, cramping, bloating, nausea, fatigue, stress, anxiety, and sleep difficulties. The programme combines gut-directed clinical hypnotherapy with CBT-informed psychological and relaxation techniques, focusing on the connection between the gut to help reduce the impact of IBS symptoms and improve overall wellbeing.

Evidence-based: NICE guidance for Irritable Bowel Syndrome (IBS) recommends considering psychological interventions, including hypnotherapy, for people with persistent symptoms that have not responded to appropriate treatment.

Perimenopause and Menopause

A specialist clinical hypnotherapy programme incorporating evidence-based CBT approaches, as recommended in NICE menopause guidance (NG23).

I have developed a specialist clinical hypnotherapy programme to help manage and alleviate common perimenopause and menopause symptoms, including hot flushes, sleep disturbances, brain fog and anxiety

During deep relaxation, clinical hypnotherapy can help you make constructive changes to the way you respond to menopause symptoms, helping to reduce their intensity and impact on everyday life.

Evidence-informed: NICE guidance recommends menopause-specific Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) as an option for managing vasomotor symptoms, including hot flushes and night sweats, and sleep difficulties associated with menopause.

Sleep and Insomnia

A specialist programme based on evidence-based CBT-I principles, recommended by NICE s first-line treatment for long term insomnia (NICE TA922)

During deep relaxation, I use Cognitive Behavioural Therapy for Insomnia (CBT-I), and incorporate Clinical Hypnotherapy to enhance the programme and support lasting improvements in sleep. Hypnotherapy uses constructive suggestions to help change unhelpful sleep habits including going to sleep, waking up in the middle of the night,  reduces anxiety around sleep. And develop a good sleep routine and promote a more natural relationship with sleep, working with the body and mind's natural ability to sleep.

Weight management

A specialist weight management programme informed by NICE guidance (NG246), focusing on sustainable changes to eating, physical activity and behaviour.

Clinical hypnotherapy uses constructive suggestions to help reduce food noise, cravings, emotional eating and other unhelpful habits around food. I incorporate cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT) and clinical hypnotherapy t0 develop a healthier relationship with food, increase motivation for exercise and support safe, positive and sustainable lifestyle changes. The programme works with both the body and mind to support healthy weight loss and lasting change.

Each programme is individually tailored to you, drawing on my psychological training and clinical hypnotherapy experience to support meaningful and lasting change.
