Are you having relationship difficulties? Maybe you wonder if you will get through this difficult time. Is there tension in the household? Are you worried about how this is affecting your children? It can often be an emotional and distressing time. Couples therapy seeks to explore how you got to that bad place, looking at how you communicate with each other, finding out each other’s raw spots and forgiving past events that have not healed. You will learn through therapy how to engage with each other, become more open and emotionally more connected. You will gain a greater physical connection and a deeper emotional bond and will want to keep your relationship alive for one another.
Using Emotional Rational Therapy (ERT) developed by Dr Sue Johnson, couples can decrease the distress and turmoil and increase the love and understanding in their relationship. Evidence suggests 70-75% of couples move from distress to recovery and about 90% show significant improvements, and it shows these positive effects last over time. EFT is not about arguing better, looking at past relationships, grandiose romantic gestures or spicing up your sex life. Instead it’s about accepting you are emotionally attached and dependent on each other. EFT focuses on creating and strengthening this emotional bond by identifying and transforming the key moments that foster an adult loving relationship.
